Small businesses burdened by taxes

The Financial Times reports an interesting YouGov poll today which shows that small business owners feel the tax burden is a more pressing concern than the problems caused by regulations. The online poll of 1,137 of companies, commissioned by the Genesis Initiative, found high levels of dissatisfaction over the government's understanding of the needs of small and medium-sized companies. Asked to name the one thing the government should do in the next 12 months, 36 per cent called for a reduction in the overall tax burden on small businesses compared with a 25 per cent that wanted regulations streamlined. Tim Kind, of the Genesis Initiative, said: "There are too many taxes and the system is too complicated. Simplicity and transparency will reduce the burden."
